OVDBA is one of the best Dexter organizations in the area, if not nationally (if we do say so ourselves ;) ). Everyone always says OVDBA feels like family, and we wholeheartedly agree. Founded in 2012, we have members from Ohio and Michigan to Tennessee and even Florida, so don't let the name scare you away; Ohio Valley just sounded cool and historic. We have monthly meetings (in person or via Zoom depending on several factors) and a Christmas gathering each year. Our annual Show and Sale is the Friday and Saturday after Mother's Day each May, come join us for two days of learning and camaraderie! OVDBA's motto is "Promoting the breed, along with our youth". Our goal is and will always be putting the youth first. Our youth director, Renae Lizarraga, even started a MOOsletter for all the youth! Check it out here! Don't be shy, reach out and join the group, you won't regret it!
ADCA is the most widely used Dexter registry, followed by PDCA (Purebred Dexter Cattle Association) and Legacy (an organization for traditional Dexters). Registering your animals is a good habit if you are planning on selling breeding stock or showing your cattle. In addition, ADCA hosts the National Expo each June-more details on the show can be found at their website (linked above)- and awards several awards, including the Chris Odom Award (information on sidebar), the Talisman Farm Award, and the Chuck Daggett Good Citizen Award. Your regional director with the ADCA can be found on their website as well. Regional directors typically have an annual meeting for their members (whether that be online or in person) and are available to help with questions and/or direct you to someone that can.
The Ohio Valley Dexter Breeders Association (OVDBA) Show and Sale 2023 will be at Warren County Fairgrounds on May 19-20. This is one of our favorite shows, with some of the best Dexter owners you'll ever meet! Make sure to mark it on your calendar!
OVDBA's website can be found on your left for recent updates and details.
The Wilson County Fair Dexter Show in Tennessee is on Monday, August 22, 2022. If you are in the area and interested in learning more about Dexters, stop by and watch the show! Read more about it here.
Hey Kids! Are you involved with your Dexters? Enter to win the Chris Odom Awards- awarded by the ADCA each year. These prestigious awards are bestowed each year at the National Expo in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places for Junior (<13) and Senior (13 and older). They commend an expert knowledge of the breed and a good work ethic. More details regarding these awards can be found here.
